The 112th Annual General Meeting of Skate Canada will be held online on Saturday, May 24, 2025, beginning at 11:00 Eastern Time (ET). This meeting will be live streamed on the web and made available for any registered Members and Observers. Final Member voting and observer registration closes online at 10:00 (ET) on Saturday, May 24, 2025.

This meeting will provide Members and Observers with an opportunity to learn about Skate Canada’s past year as well as share in the decision making for the future of our organization.  As per bylaw 4.7, the order of business at the Annual General Meeting shall be determined by the Board or as required by the Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act or other relevant legislation.  Elections and amendment voting will take place on Saturday, May 24, 2025.

How to declare as a delegate or observer to the Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting is open to all registered Skate Canada Members (clubs/schools and coaches) and registrants and there is no fee to attend the meeting.

To attend the Annual General Meeting on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 11:00 (ET) all voting delegates and observers must declare their intention to attend and, if applicable, vote prior to 10:00 (ET) on Saturday, May 24, 2025.

Delegates: Skate Canada coaches, club delegates and skating school administrators must declare their voting intention prior to 10:00 (ET) Saturday, May 24, 2025.  Once voting declaration is submitted and accepted by the coach, club or skating school a token will be issued by email. The token will be required to sign into the meeting and to vote at designated voting times.

Observers: Those entitled to attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM) must declare their intention prior to 10:00 (ET) Saturday, May 24, 2025.  Please refer to the FAQ which outlines who can attend the AGM.  Once observer declaration is submitted and accepted a token will be issued by email.  The token will be required to sign into the meeting.

IMPORTANT!  Your voting token may only be used by you as Skate Canada Bylaws do not permit proxy voting. You may not give your token to anyone else to vote. Skate Canada closely monitors how voting tokens are used during the actual voting process and if it is determined that a token has been shared and used, Skate Canada will deactivate that token immediately and the Skate Canada Chief Executive Officer will be notified.

In-Person Attendance

The AGM will be broadcast from the National Service Centre in Ottawa.  Limited in person seating will be available so if a delegate (member club or coach) would like to attend in-person please contact info@skatecanada.ca to request to attend.

Skate Canada is now accepting applications for six positions on the Board of Directors. The deadline for submissions is March 15, 2025.

Once your intention to attend the AGM has been confirmed, you will receive a meeting token that will allow you to gain access to the live stream.

  • Section Chairs
  • National Service Centre Employees
  • Employees at all Section Offices
  • Honorary Associates
  • Skate Canada Registrants
  • Skate Canada Coaches

  • A club (represented by a delegate who has declared an intention to vote)
  • A skating school (represented by a delegate who has declared an intention to vote)
  • A coach (once an intention to vote has been declared)

Delegate refers to the person who will vote on behalf of a club or skating school.

Clubs/skating schools have the discretion to confirm whomever they wish to act as their delegates. Delegates do not have to be registered with Skate Canada.

Yes. The deadline for declaring an intention to vote at the AGM is one hour before the start of the meeting.

No. All delegates must be confirmed by the clubs/skating schools that they are representing before they can vote. Note:  All meeting attendance tokens and/or voting tokens must be issued prior to 10:00 (ET) on Saturday, May 24, 2025.

Once a delegate declares an intention to vote on behalf of a particular club or skating school, that organization will receive an e-mail containing the name of the person who will act as its delegate. That organization must then respond to this e-mail to confirm that this person has been accepted as its delegate.

No. The coach must first respond to the e-mail that they will receive once an intention to vote has been declared. This e-mail will go to the address that Skate Canada has on file for that coach and is sent to confirm from whom this declaration came. Once confirmed, the coach will receive a voting token and is then ready to vote. Note:  All meeting attendance tokens and/or voting tokens must be issued prior to 10:00 (ET) on Saturday, May 24, 2025.

No. Proxy voting is no longer available.

Anyone who has been confirmed as a voting member will receive a voting token that is used to gain access to the online voting system. All voting is done online.

No. Each delegate may represent only one organization.

Yes. In this case, the coach must declare an intention to vote as a coach and as a delegate for a club/skating school.

  • Clubs/skating schools that have between 0 – 299 registrants: Each vote has a weight of 15 votes
  • Clubs/skating schools that have 300 or more registrants: Each vote has a weight of 40 votes
  • Coaches: Each vote has a weight of one vote

Quorum refers to the amount of voters that must be present in order for a meeting to begin. Skate Canada’s bylaws define quorum as the following:

  • One hundred and twenty-five (125) Persons Entitled to Vote present in person or present through the telephonic, electronic or other communication facility provided by Skate Canada and representing at least two thousand (2,000) votes

Voting occurs at a number of times throughout the meeting. Refer to the meeting agenda for the schedule.

Anyone who has been confirmed as a voter or as an observer at the AGM will receive a meeting token. This token is required to gain access to the online meeting.

No. Only voting members will have a voice at the Annual General Meeting.

Only voting members will have the chat function available to them.

Voters who cannot access the chat function should check that they are using an up-to-date Internet browser. Google Chrome is recommended.

The following are recommendations to improve your online meeting experience:

Device: Laptop or desktop device is strongly recommended. Devices such as tablets or smartphones may be used, however, the viewing experience may not be as desirable as laptop or desktop devices.

Internet Browser: Google Chrome is recommended.  Ensure your browser has no outstanding updates.

Internet: Ensure you have a strong internet connection.  Internet strength may affect your overall experience.
