Six Skaters to Represent Canada at the NHK Trophy in Japan
OTTAWA, ON (November 14, 2022) – After a successful trip to Sheffield, Great Britain, Canadian skaters make their way to Sapporo, Japan for the fifth stop on the ISU Grand Prix circuit. Canada will be sending a small squad comprised of two men and one team in pair and ice dance at the NHK Trophy, scheduled to take place from November 18-20, 2022.
Stephen Gogolev and Conrad Orzel will represent the maple leaf in the men’s discipline. Gogolev kicked off his first senior season by finishing 6th at the 2022 U.S. International Figure Skating Classic and 7th at the 2022 Skate Canada International. Orzel has competed at both the Finlandia Trophy and Skate Canada International, where he finished 11th.
The young team of Brooke McIntosh and Benjamin Mimar will be the face of Canada in the pair discipline. McIntosh and Mimar have gotten off to an electric start in their senior careers by winning bronze at the 2022 Finlandia Trophy and placing 4th on home soil at Skate Canada International.
In ice dance, Olympians Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Nikolaj Soerensen will look to continue their medal streak, with the duo securing a gold medal at the 2022 Finlandia Trophy and a silver medal at the 2022 Grand Prix de France.
The competition starts on Friday, November 18 with every discipline performing their short program/rhythm dance. All medals will be awarded on Saturday, November 19, as all disciplines will perform their free program/free dance. The event concludes on Sunday with the exhibition gala.
