Desrochers and Thrasher Finish Eighth in Senior Grand Prix Debut

SHENZHEN, CHINA (Nov. 7, 2026) – Canadian junior world silver medallists Jazmine Desrochers (Mississauga, Ont.) and Kieran Thrasher (Windsor, Ont.) made their senior Grand Prix debut this weekend at the ISU Grand Prix Cup of China in Shenzhen, China.

The pair finished eighth overall, earning 59.24 points in the short program and 93.84 points in the free program for a total of 153.08 points.

“It’s definitely been a change from junior, that’s for sure,” Desrochers said. “But I think at the end of the day, we showed up. After the first practice we started getting the vibe, and from there I felt like we built really well off of that.”

“We had a strong short, which is already a big step for us, and then the free, I mean all the elements are there, it’s just a matter of doing them when it counts,” she added.

Thrasher also felt the competition marked progress for the pair, particularly in their overall approach.

“I think overall our approach was probably the best it’s been this year, so I think that’s a good improvement,” he said. “I think we showed what we can do, especially in practice and in the short. I think in the free we can definitely improve, but I think overall even though it wasn’t our best skate, it was still an improvement from our previous competition, so that’s something to take away as well.”

Individual neutral athletes Anastasia Mishina and Aleksandr Galliamov captured gold with 209.84 points. Georgia’s Anastasiia Metelkina and Luka Berulava won silver with 198.27 points, and Japan’s Yuna Nagaoka and Sumitada Moriguchi won bronze with 181.50 points.

The ISU Grand Prix series resumes November 13-15, with Skate America in Everett, Washington.
