ISU Figure Skating Grand Prix Season Opens in Angers, France
ANGERS, FRANCE (Oct. 24, 2026) — The ISU Figure Skating Grand Prix series got underway this past weekend in Angers, France. Gabrielle Daleman (Barrie, Ont.) was on hand as Canada’s sole representative, placing 10th overall.
The competition marked Daleman’s first Grand Prix appearance since the 2022-2023 season. Daleman made an impressive comeback last season, overcoming a series of injuries to capture silver at the 2026 Canadian National Skating Championships. She kicked off her international season last month with a fifth-place finish at the Nepela Memorial.
Daleman earned 55.66 points for her short program, before going on to score 100.56 points for her free program. She totalled 156.22 points overall.
“Overall, it wasn’t a perfect competition, nowhere near,” she said after the free skate. “But I’m definitely proud of being back on the Grand Prix circuit, and it’s a step in the right direction. Still tons of things to improve on, but there were a lot of things that were getting better. I’m looking forward to going back home for the next two or three weeks and getting ready for Estonia, and for another stepping stone.”
Japan’s Ami Nakai took gold with a total of 219.74 points. Georgia’s Anastasiia Gubanova earned silver with a total of 202.82 points, and Italy’s Lara Naki Gutmann won bronze with 202.37 points.
You can catch Canada’s skaters in action again Oct. 30 to Nov. 1 in Kelowna, B.C., at the Skate Canada International. Among those scheduled to compete are Milano-Cortina Olympians Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud (pairs), Stephen Gogolev (men’s), Madeline Schizas (women’s), and Marie-Jade Lauriault and Romain Le Gac (ice dance).
