Canada Earns Two Top 10 Finishes at Junior Grand Prix in Slovenia
LJUBLJANA (Slovenia) October 3, 2026 – Two Canadian ice dance teams travelled to Slovenia to compete in the sixth leg of the ISU Junior Grand Prix Series, held in Ljubljana.
National silver medallists Charlie Anderson (London, Ont.) and Cayden Dawson (Oakville, Ont.) made their return to the Junior Grand Prix circuit after kicking off their season with a fourth-place finish in Ankara, Türkiye.
The pair earned 49.32 points in the rhythm dance, set to music from the film “Who Framed Roger Rabbit.” They then went on to score 86.24 points in the free dance, totalling 135.56 points overall to finish in seventh place.
“I think we were really happy with the free dance today,” Dawson said. “We were really happy we were able to recover from, kind of a mistake, and a few other things that happened in the rhythm dance yesterday, and it’s probably the free dance that we’re most proud of this season.”
This weekend also marked the Junior Grand Prix debut of 2025 Novice Ice Dance champions, Annabelle Théroux (Boucherville, Que.) and Rafaël Gossard (Montreal, Que.). After scoring 50.30 points in the rhythm dance, the duo earned 79.19 points in the free dance. They placed ninth overall with a total score of 129.49 points.
“I think it went really well,” Théroux said. “We had a lot of fun, we learned a lot of things about ourselves and about Europe, too. We know that we can do more than we can usually believe in ourselves, so I think that’s a nice thing to know now.”
Germany’s Darya Grimm and Grigorii Rodin captured the gold medal in ice dance with 169.40 points overall. France’s Ambre Perrier Gianesini and Samuel Blanc Klaperman won silver with 164.00 points, and the USA’s Aneta Vaclavikova and William Lissauer won bronze with 159.05 points.
The final ISU Junior Grand Prix event will be held Oct. 8 to 10, in Gdansk, Poland.
