OBERSTDORF, GERMANY (Sept. 27, 2026) – Ten Canadian skaters competed at the Nebelhorn Trophy this week as part of the ISU Challenger Series, where pairs national champions and world bronze medallists Lia Pereira (Milton, Ont.) and Trennt Michaud (Brantford, Ont.) claimed gold.  

Pereira and Michaud scored 74.40 points in the short program and 119.78 points in the free program for a total of 194.48 points.  

“To be able to come out after such a strong season last year and start with such a strong couple of skates here, we have a lot of good things to take away from this weekend,” Pereira said.  

“It’s a great crowd, great fans and volunteers, so we’re just really happy that we skated well,” Michaud added. “That was the main thing we wanted to do here, and we’re also happy to finally be on the podium here.” 

In their senior challenger debut, ISU world junior champions Ava Kemp (Winnipeg, Man.) and Yohnatan Elizarov (Winnipeg, Man.) placed fourth with 165.48 points after scoring 64.21 points in the short program and 101.27 points in the free program.  

“We’re a little disappointed,” Elizarov said after the free program. “The jumps were kind of uncharacteristic. We don’t usually pop, especially both of us in different jumps, so that was kind of funny. I feel we regrouped pretty well, we’re happy about the throws while the lifts were OK. This was our first senior outing, there’s room to grow.” 

Audrey Shin and Spencer Akira Howe (USA) won silver with 177.83 points, while Jiaxuan Zhang and Yihang Huang (CHN) took bronze with 167.54 points.  

Ice dancers Marie-Jade Lauriault (Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, Que.) and Romain Le Gac (Laval, Que.) won silver in their category. The duo scored 75.57 points in the rhythm dance and 107.83 points in the free dance for a total of 183.40 points.  

“We’re just really happy to have been able to show both programs and how we trained them,” Lauriault said after the competition. “We’re proud of what we achieved, I think we’re eager for more this year, overall they were good skates.” 

Layla Veillon (London, Ont.) and Alexander Brandys (London, Ont.) placed seventh overall with 156.55 total points in their senior international debut. They scored 61.43 points in the rhythm dance and 95.12 points in the free dance. 

USA’s Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko took gold with a total score of 188.83 points. Australia’s Holly Harris and Jason Chan won bronze with 176.04 points. 

Fée Ann Landry (Gatineau, Que.) took home the bronze medal in women’s singles with 156.88 points. She scored 56.41 points in the short program and 100.47 points in the free program, set to music from the soundtrack of “Zorro.” 

“I thought Oberstdorf was a really nice experience,” she said. “The rink is nice, everyone here was really welcoming. I had some minor mistakes here and there, but overall I’m happy with my performances and we’ll build on that for the rest of the season.” 

Norway’s Mia Risa Gomez won gold with 175.80 points, while Italy’s Marina Piredda took silver with 158.04 points.  

In men’s singles, Aleksa Rakic (Burnaby, B.C.) placed sixth overall with 219.78 points after coming up with scores of 80.56 in the short program and 139.22 in the free program.  

Estonia’s Aleksandr Selevko won gold with 246.24 points, followed by Germany’s Genrikh Gartung with 231.39 points and France’s François Pitot with 224.19 points.
