OTTAWA, ON (August 24, 2026) – Canada’s next generation of figure skating talent will be in action this week as eleven junior athletes head to Riga, Latvia for the second stop on the ISU Junior Grand Prix Series. The competition takes place August 27-29 and will feature Canadian entries in the men’s, pairs and ice dance events.

Fresh off a silver-medal performance at the 2026 NextGen Competition, William Chan will represent Canada as the country’s lone entry in the men’s event. The national junior silver medallist returns to the Junior Grand Prix circuit for the first time since 2024, when he placed fifth in Ankara.

The pairs competition will feature three Canadian teams, all making their Junior Grand Prix debuts. Leading the group are 2026 NextGen champions Miroslava Oreshkin and Vladmir Furman, who are competing in their first season together as a team. They will be joined by Skate Canada Trophy novice champions Marykim Ranzi and Enryck Legault, along with Amy Ritchie and Mitchell Dunn, who finished sixth at the 2026 Canadian National Skating Championships.

In ice dance, sibling team Victoria Carandiuc and Andrei Carandiuc return to the Junior Grand Prix after finishing eighth in Bangkok last season. Joining them are Laurence Brière and Earl Jesse Celestino, who are making their international debut as a team. Both athletes bring previous Junior Grand Prix experience, having competed on the circuit with their former partners.
