Maxime Deschamps Announces Retirement from Competitive Figure Skating

OTTAWA, ON (July 7, 2026) – After more than two decades in the sport, World Champion Maxime Deschamps has announced his retirement from competitive figure skating.

Deschamps closes his career as one of Canada’s most accomplished pair skaters. Alongside partner Deanna Stellato-Dudek, he captured the 2024 World title, the 2024 Four Continents title, earned multiple Grand Prix medals, and won three consecutive national titles from 2023 to 2025.

Most recently, Deschamps and Stellato-Dudek fulfilled a lifelong dream when they represented Canada at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milano Cortina, marking Deschamps’ first Olympic appearance.

“Representing Canada on the world’s biggest stages has been an incredible privilege,” said Deschamps. “From my first days on the ice to becoming a World Champion and Olympian, I’m deeply grateful to everyone who supported me on this journey – my family, coaches, Skate Canada, and especially Deanna. Together, we achieved dreams that once felt impossible.”

“While it’s not easy to step away from competition, I’m excited to give back to the sport in a new way and help guide the next generation of skaters.”

Throughout his career, Deschamps has been recognized as a leader within the sport, an advocate for ADHD awareness, and a fierce competitor who pushed the technical and performance boundaries in pair skating.

As he now transitions away from competitive skating, Deschamps will remain involved in the sport as a coach with the Dollard Figure Skating Club and the Vaudreuil Region Figure Skating Club in Quebec.

Skate Canada congratulates Maxime Deschamps on an exceptional career and thanks him for his lasting contributions to Canadian figure skating.
