Gilles and Poirier Notch Third Consecutive Silver Medal to Close Out 2026 ISU World Championships
PRAGUE (CZECHIA) March 28, 2026 – After taking home bronze at the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Winter Games, Piper Gilles (Toronto, Ont.) and Paul Poirier (Unionville, Ont.) have done it again, delivering yet another stunning performance to secure the silver medal at the 2026 ISU Figure Skating World Championships on Saturday.
“I think we’re really proud of what we did out there,” Gilles said. “Having about three weeks to put together a program that we haven’t done in two years was a challenge, but I think we really enjoyed it.”
The pair earned 125.07 points for their Wuthering Heights free dance, which they brought back for this competition after having retired it at the end of the 2023-24 season, and totaled 211.52 points overall to win their third consecutive silver medal at the World Championships and their fifth career podium at the event.
Alongside Gilles and Poirier on the podium, France’s Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron (230.81) were crowned ice dance world champions, just weeks after their gold medal win at the Milano Cortina Games. USA’s Emilea Zingas and Vadym Kolesnik (209.20) took home the bronze.
National silver medallists Marjorie Lajoie (Boucherville, Que.) and Zachary Lagha (Saint-Hubert, Que.) placed ninth overall after earning 118.25 points for their free dance and a total score of 199.06 points.
Marie-Jade Lauriault (Ste-Anne-Des-Plaines, Que.) and Romain Le Gac (Laval, Que.) managed to climb the rankings, placing 13th overall with a total score of 181.66 points. This marked the duo’s first Worlds appearance since 2019, and their first representing Canada.
“I think it went well,” Lauriault said after their skate. “We’re happy about how we were able to come back from yesterday and how we were able to kind of refocus and still have fun, enjoy every second of the performance. That’s what we wanted, and that’s what we did.”
In men’s singles, Stephen Gogolev (Toronto, Ont.) was up against stiff competition but executed his free program beautifully, scoring 186.66 points. With a total score of 281.04, Gogolev placed fourth overall, and heads home with three more personal bests to cap off a phenomenal Worlds debut and season.
“I think it was quite a good week,” he said. “Especially setting a personal best. I’m really happy to end the season this way.”
USA’s Ilia Malinin (329.40) is once again the men’s singles world champion, with Japan’s Yuma Kagiyama (306.67) and Shun Sato (288.54) taking silver and bronze, respectively.
