Canada Builds on Olympic Momentum Heading into ISU Figure Skating World Championships
Ottawa, ON (March 23, 2026) – Canada’s top figure skaters are set to take on the world for one final time this season at the 2026 ISU Figure Skating World Championships, taking place from March 24–29 in Prague, Czechia. A team of twelve athletes will be competing, including ten Olympians fresh off the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games, who will look to carry their momentum into this competition.
Reigning world silver medallists Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier will lead the Canadian delegation after capturing their first Olympic medal – a bronze – in Milan. The veteran duo has had a strong showing this season, earning a sixth consecutive title at Skate Canada International, a silver medal at the Finlandia Trophy, and their fifth national title. The event will mark their 13th appearance at the world championships together.
Also competing in ice dance, national silver medallists Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha are hungry for more following a top-10 finish at the Olympic Games. They add to Canada’s depth in the discipline after earning silver at Skate Canada International and bronze at Skate America this season. Two-time Olympians Marie-Jade Lauriault and Romain Le Gac will complete the ice dance team.
In pairs, newly crowned national champions Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud will look to build on their success after setting two personal best scores at the Olympic Games. The duo will aim to improve on their result from the world championships last year, where they finished in 11th place. They will be joined by national bronze medallists Kelly Ann Laurin and Loucas Éthier, who claimed bronze at Skate America earlier this season.
National champions Stephen Gogolev and Madeline Schizas will be representing Canada in the singles events. Gogolev turned heads with a fifth-place finish in Milan, positioning himself as a strong contender for the podium, while Schizas took home the bronze at the Denis Ten Memorial earlier this season.
