Canadian Teams Stand Out on First Day of 2026 ISU Synchronized Skating Junior World Championships
GDAŃSK, POLAND (March 13, 2026) — NEXXICE Junior (Burlington, Ont.), and Les Suprêmes Junior (Saint-Léonard, Que.) made their mark on the international stage, finishing among the top six teams in a field of 26 on the first day of competition at the 2026 ISU Synchronized Skating Junior World Championships in Gdańsk, Poland on Friday.
Coming into this weekend’s competition fresh off gold medals at the Riga Amber Cup and the 2026 Skate Canada Cup, NEXXICE Junior got right to work, soaring to the top of the standings early on with their short program which earned them 70.49 points.
“It’s an honour to be here,” said NEXXICE captain Sadie Denham after their program. “I think three-quarters of the team it’s their first time being at Worlds, so just getting here was an accomplishment in itself. We love this program so much and it was an emotional day, we’re all really upset to let it go, so we just wanted to skate our best and make ourselves proud, and I think we did that.”
The team currently sits in sixth place following the end of the first day of competition.
National silver medallists Les Suprêmes Junior also got off to a great start, scoring 74.07 points with their short program and securing the third spot in the rankings.
“We really put out everything that we could out there on the ice,” said Les Suprêmes co-captain Emma Pellerin after their skate. “We were super calm. The energy was great from the crowd, but we were able to stay in our knees and our ankles. Our main goal was to have fun, so that’s exactly what we did.”
“Like our coach, Laurie, tells us all the time, it’s not about the perfection,” added Aliana Dell’Orefice, also co-captain. “It’s about working together and skating for each other and just having fun and creating new memories.”
Both Canadian teams will compete in hopes of a podium finish as they take on the free program on Saturday. Currently, Finland’s team Helsinki Fintastic Junior sits in first place with 80.53 points. Team Skyliners Junior (USA) sits just ahead of Les Suprêmes in second place with 77.58 points.
