Gogolev 10th After Men’s Short Program at Milano Cortina 2026
MILAN (Italy) February 10, 2026 — Canada’s Stephen Gogolev (Toronto, Ont.) was back on the ice in the men’s short program on Tuesday as the fifth day of figure skating action got underway at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
Skating for the third time in four days, Gogolev put up a very strong performance despite battling a bit of fatigue. He first performed this routine earlier on in the competition as part of the team event, scoring a personal and season’s best 92.99 points.
“Most of my jumping passes were quite good,” he said after his skate. “On the last axel I did have a slight mistake putting the foot down, but overall, I’m quite happy with the way I competed.”
While he may have been feeling the fatigue of the ups and downs that come with the adrenaline high of competing, being able to skate this routine before the individual event was a big help, he said.
Gogolev currently sits in 10th place with 87.91 points ahead of the free program on Friday. He’ll look to rest up over the next couple of days so he can replicate his success from the free program segment in the team event, also a personal and season’s best score (171.93).
“Definitely no surprises compared to the team event,” he said. “I’ll keep the layout the same, the technical difficulty the same. I think it’s just about mentally preparing for that, and thankfully we have two days in between so I can rest and relax and then come back for the free skate.”
Tomorrow, ice dance teams Marie-Jade Lauriault (Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, Que.) and Romain Le Gac (Laval, Que.), Marjorie Lajoie (Boucherville, Que.) and Zachary Lagha (Saint-Hubert, Que.), and Piper Gilles (Toronto, Ont.) and Paul Poirier (Unionville, Ont.) will compete in the free dance starting at 1:30 p.m. ET, with medals on the line as Gilles and Poirier currently sit third in the standings.
