Saskatoon Welcomes Figure Skating Elite for 2025 Skate Canada International
Ottawa, ON (Oct. 27, 2025) – The world’s top figure skaters will take the ice at SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, Sask., from October 31 to November 2, 2025, as the city hosts the 51st edition of Skate Canada International (SCI). The third stop on the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series, the event will showcase top international competitors and 18 Canadian athletes looking to make their mark in front of a home crowd.
In the dance event, World silver medallists and Canadian champions Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier will make their season debut in Saskatoon where they will chase their sixth consecutive SCI title. They will be joined by fellow Canadians Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha, who won silver at the same event last year. Adding international star power to the ice dance field are Lithuania’s Allison Reed and Saulius Ambrulevičius, who claimed bronze at the first stop of the Grand Prix series.
Canadian champions Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps will look to claim their second Grand Prix medal of the season in the pairs event. The 2024 World Champions earned silver at the Grand Prix de France with a performance highlighted by a history-making backflip. German duo Minerva Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin, the reigning world silver medallists, will challenge the Canadian skaters for the top step of the pairs podium.
Headlining the men’s competition will be World Record Holder and two-time World Champion Ilia Malinin of the United States, who enters the event with a gold medal from Grand Prix de France. Also in Saskatoon, Canadians Stephen Gogolev and Roman Sadovsky will go head-to-head for the third time this season. Both skaters won their first international gold medals in the ISU Challenger Series earlier this year.
The women’s competition will feature Japanese standouts Ami Nakai, Grand Prix de France gold medallist, and World Bronze Medallist Mone Chiba. Three-time Canadian champion Madeline Schizas, who recently claimed bronze at the Denis Ten Memorial Challenge, will also challenge for a spot on the podium.
The competition starts on Friday, Oct. 31 with the pair and women’s short programs. Saturday, Nov. 1 will feature the rhythm dance and men’s short program, followed by the free programs for the pair and women’s competitions. The event will close on Sunday, Nov. 2 with the final performances in the men’s and ice dance categories in lieu of the traditional exhibition gala.
