Gold for Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha at the Budapest Trophy

Budapest, Hungary (Oct. 12, 2025) – Marjorie Lajoie (Boucherville, QC) and Zachary Lagha (Saint-Hubert, QC) won gold at the 2025 Budapest Trophy in the ice dance competition on Sunday in Budapest, Hungary.

First after the rhythm dance, the duo achieved the same ranking in the free dance to finish first overall. Lajoie and Lagha received a score of 121.97 on Sunday, bringing their total to 201.13.

“I think this is the best first competition we’ve ever had! We’re really happy. Obviously, there are still things to improve, but considering how we skated and managed our stress, I can say it went well,” said Lagha.

“Usually, our first competition is always difficult, but this year, we managed it really well!” added Lajoie.

Hungary’s Mariia Ignateva and Danijil Leonyidovics Szemko took second place with a score of 185.12. Italy’s Giulia Isabella Paolino and Andrea Tuba completed the podium with 169.52 points.

Meanwhile, Canada’s other entry in the event, Sandrine Gauthier (Saint-Constant, QC) and Quentin Thieren (Montreal, QC) finished in fourth place. The skaters earned a personal best of 162.67 points to finish just off the podium.

“It’s a great comeback for us! Two years ago, it was our first time competing at the senior level, and it allowed us to discover this level. We then returned to the junior level, and I think that really made a difference. All the experience we gained at the junior level has served us well today and will serve us this season,” shared Thieren.
