Madeline Schizas Wins Bronze in Kazakhstan
ALMATY, KAZAKHSTAN (Oct. 4, 2025) – Madeline Schizas (Oakville, Ont.) placed third at the Denis Ten Memorial Challenge in Almaty, Kazakhstan, winning her first international medal of the season.
The Beijing Olympian earned a score of 164.39 and was edged out by South Koreans Haein Lee (196.84) and Ahsun Yun (174.37).
“I’m very happy to have skated in Kazakhstan this week. It’s good preparation for the Grand Prix series. There were a few challenges, but I was able to find solutions to get the best result possible,” said Schizas, 22, who was second after the short program.
In ice dance, Alicia Fabbri (Terrebonne, Que.) and Paul Ayer (Brossard, Que.) made a strong comeback in the rankings after the free dance to finish the competition in fourth place (173.34), just under four points from the third step of the podium. Georgia’s Diana Davis and Gleb Smolkin (193.14) were crowned champions ahead of the United States’ Oona Brown and Gage Brown (178.86) and Sweden’s Milla Ruud Reitan and Nikolaj Majorov (177.25).
Two Canadians were in action in the men’s competition. Matthew Newnham (Edmonton, Alta.) finished seventh (219.53), while John Kim (Mississauga, Ont.) placed 14th (188.70).
