Team Canada Earns Two Medals at Nebelhorn Trophy

OBERSTDORF, GERMANY (Sept. 27, 2025) – Team Canada delivered strong performances this weekend at the ISU Challenger Series Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf, Germany, securing two podium finishes.

In the men’s event, Stephen Gogolev (Toronto, Ont.) captured gold with two personal best skates, earning 90.19 in the short program and 164.87 in the free. His total score of 255.06 surpassed his previous personal best score by more than 20 points.

The Toronto native finished ahead of Andrew Torgashev (239.54) from the United States and Lukas Britschgi (236.06) from Switzerland to win his second medal on the Challenger Series circuit after taking bronze at the 2025 Cranberry Cup in August. Meanwhile, Canada’s second men’s entry, Roman Sadovsky (Vaughan, Ont.), placed fifth earning 233.39.

“I’m happy with these results, but not completely because of the way I skated in the free program. Still, the result shows that I’ve improved since the last events. Setting a personal best and scoring over 90 points in the short program is an important milestone this season. Now, the goal will be to be consistent for the rest of the season and get in even better shape.” said Gogolev.

On Saturday, ice dancers Marie-Jade Lauriault (Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, QC) and Romain Le Gac (Laval, QC) won bronze with a total score of 180.17, marking their third medal of the season. The duo, who recently won gold at the Kinoshita Group Cup, moved up one spot after earning 111.19 points in the free dance. Britain’s Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson took gold (201.51), followed by United States’ Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko (192.35), who won silver.

“We’re really happy with what we delivered on the ice. A little less so with the short program, where we didn’t perform as well as we did in Japan, but the free dance went well. It’s good to have these scores before the Grand Prix, so we can prepare better,” shared Lauriault.

Also in ice dance, Lily Hensen (London, Ont.) and Nathan Lickers (Six Nations Grand River Territory, Ont.) finished sixth with 154.24 points.

In the women’s event, Kaiya Ruiter (Calgary, AB) achieved a fifth place finish with 178.44 points, while Katherine Medland Spence (Ottawa, Ont.) finished 10th (151.57). In pairs, Lia Pereira (Milton, Ont.) and Trennt Michaud (Trenton, Ont.) took sixth place (183.57).
