Keegan Messing Announces Return to Competitive Figure Skating
Ottawa, ON (Aug. 19, 2025) – Two-time National Men’s Champion Keegan Messing has announced his return to competitive figure skating. Training in his hometown of Anchorage, Alaska, he plans to compete in the 2025-26 Olympic season under the guidance of longtime coach Ralph Burghart.
A five-time national medallist, Messing represented Canada at two Olympic Winter Games (2018, 2022), before announcing his retirement in May 2023. Since retiring, he continued to delight fans around the world by skating in professional shows. It was during the show season this winter that Messing made the decision to return to competitive skating.
“During the Stars On Ice tour I realized I was skating at a high level again and that sparked my decision to return. I’ve put in the work, regained my jumps, and rediscovered the fire within myself to train. My focus now is to be stronger than when I retired and to secure a spot on the Olympic team,” said Messing.
This August, Messing will attend Skate Canada’s annual High Performance Camp in Mississauga, Ont., where his readiness will be assessed for domestic qualifying events and possible international assignments. The camp brings together the country’s top senior athletes to perform their competitive programs and receive feedback from Skate Canada international officials to prepare them for the season ahead.
