Two Medals for Canada at the 2025 French Cup

Rouen, France (February 1, 2025) – Canada won two synchronized skating medals on Saturday at the 2025 French Cup in Rouen. Team NEXXICE Senior captured silver, while Nova Junior secured bronze.

After finishing third at the most recent Canadian Championships, NEXXICE Senior, of Burlington, Ontario, held second place following the short program at this weekend’s French Cup. On Saturday, the team earned 135.71 points in the free program, bringing their total to 208.87, securing the silver medal behind Marigold Ice Unity of Finland (217.80).

Team Unique, also of Finland, completed the podium with a final score of 204.54.

“I think we all really like this routine. It’s fun to skate, and I’m proud to know that we performed it that way today [Saturday],” said Lawren Hatfield, member of the silver medal-winning team.

Her teammate Olivia Tworzyanski also expressed the joy shared by the team on the ice.

“We wanted to put on a good show and to enjoy ourselves, and that’s what we did. We’re continuing to build up our confidence for our upcoming competitions.”

Two junior Canadian teams also competed in Rouen, including Nova Junior (Saint-Hubert, Quebec) and ICE Ignite (Ilderton, Ontario).

Thanks to the 119.17 points they amassed in Saturday’s free program, the Quebec team climbed from fourth place to third, with an overall score of 187.23. The two top spots on the podium were occupied by Finnish teams Valley Bay Synchro (203.47) and Fintastic (199.67).

“We feel great about what we accomplished today. We’re really happy. We aced all our elements! We’re going to keep working hard, so that we’re just as successful at the next competition,” said Nova co-captain Élodie Fontaine.

ICE Ignite finished sixth, with a cumulative score of 175.70 points.
