16 Canadian Skaters to Compete in ISU Challenger Events in November
OTTAWA, ON (November 7, 2024) – Sixteen Canadian figure skaters will travel to Europe this month to compete in International Skating Union (ISU) Challenger Series events. The Series provides skaters with opportunities to compete at the international senior level and earn valuable World Standing Points.
The Tallinn Trophy will take place from November 12-17, 2024 in Tallinn, Estonia, and will see eight Canadian athletes looking to make their mark on the international stage. The women’s event will feature junior skaters Reese Rose and Aleksa Volkova, whose competition was cut short at the 2024 Trophy Metropole due to extreme weather. They will be joined in the women’s discipline by senior athlete Sara-Maude Dupuis.
Roman Sadovsky will be Canada’s lone entry in the men’s competition. He will look to make a strong comeback after withdrawing from Skate Canada International last month due to injury. Closing out the Canadian delegation in Estonia will be ice dancers Lily Hensen and Nathan Lickers, as well as Alicia Fabbri and Paul Ayer.
Canadian athletes will finish the month in Warsaw, Poland, at the 2024 Warsaw Cup. Taking place from November 20-24, the event will see Fiona Bombardier and Benjamin Mimar make their international debut as a newly formed pairs team.
Ice dance team Nadiia Bashynska and Peter Beaumont will look to climb the leaderboard after their seventh-place finish at the Trophy Metropole last month. They will be joined in the ice dance event by Marie-Jade Lauriault and Romain Le Gac, who earned seventh-place finishes at both of their Grand Prix assignments this season.
Katherine Medland Spence will make her international debut in Warsaw in the women’s competition. 2024 Canadian National Champion Kaiya Ruiter, who enters the competition fresh off an eighth-place finish at Skate Canada International, will also be competing in the same event.
