Les Suprêmes place fifth at French Cup

ROUEN, France – Les Suprêmes from St-Léonard, Que., took fifth spot on Saturday at the French Cup synchronized skating competition.

Paradise from Russia held onto first for the gold with 230.53 points, ahead of three teams from Finland. Marigold Ice Unity was second at 229.56, Helsinki Rockettes third at 227.11 and Team Unique fourth at 226.27.

Les Suprêmes, also fifth after the short program, earned 221.30. That was nearly 12 points better than their score last week in Sweden where they placed fourth.

Skating for Les Suprêmes are Jessica Allaire, Rebecca Allaire, Karianne Bégin, Julia Bernardo, Laurie Désilets. Olivia Di Giandomenico, Molly Katherine Farber, Lisanne Foley, Laurie Raphaelle Gauthier, Peter Gerome, Giulia Hart-Lewis, Sora Hatano, Grace Carol LeTouzel, Dana Malowany, Agathe Sigrid Merlier, Andréanne Paradis, Martha Maria Pietrasik, Alessia Malissa Pollletta, Florene Poulin and Édouard Tremblay.

“We are very happy with the way we skated today,” said Malowany, the team captain. “We had a great improvement over our score in Sweden. However there are still mistakes we have to fix when we get home.”

In junior competition, Team Junost from Russia was first, Skyliners from the U.S. second and Dream Edges from Finland third.

Gold Ice Juniors from Brampton, Ont., in its international debut, took seventh spot.

Skating for Gold Ice were: Nethma Aluthge, Allison Brandt, Evangeline Liao, Lora Puliz, Emiko Arshad, Reeya Chahal, Anna Drob, Denika Ellis-Dawson, Gabrielle Emery, Jasmine Gagnon, Rachel Humphrey, Alessia Moreno, Marissa Nadeau, Isabelle Pawlowski, Halle Priester, Olivia Tworzyanski, Emily Vanderberg and Brynn Wilkinson.

“We had to portray a lot of emotion in our long program,” said Ellis-Dawson. “We wanted to show there is a different side to Gold Ice. This was a good preparation for nationals where we hope to be on the podium.”
