Tsuut’ina Nation Welcomes International Adult Skaters for International Competition
OTTAWA, ON (September 16, 2024) – The 7 Chiefs Sportsplex & Chief Jim Starlight Centre, proudly owned by the Tsuut’ina Nation and located on the outskirts of Calgary, Alta., will play host to over 275 skaters from 14 countries at the 2024 North American International Adult Figure Skating Competition from September 18-21, 2024.
At 228,000 square feet, the 7 Chiefs Sportsplex is the largest sporting and fitness facility in western Canada and will be the first facility on First Nations land to host an international figure skating competition in Canada.
The competition, held annually in the fall, features adult skaters participating in free skating, artistic free skating, pair free skating, ice dance, and synchronized skating for skaters of all skill levels. Spectators are invited to attend the event free of charge throughout the week.
Canada will have the largest contingent at the competition, fielding 170 competitors and three synchronized skating teams. The United States will have 46 athletes, while Mexico will have nine, and Australia will have seven. Other countries include Argentina, China, France, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, Lithuania, New Zealand, Switzerland, and Sweden.
