(October 3, 2009 - DRESDEN, Germany) – Andrei Rogozine of Richmond Hill, Ont., and the ice dance team of Olivia Martins of Toronto and Alvin Chau of Richmond Hill, Ont., finished sixth on Saturday and posted personal best scores to conclude the fifth stop on the ISU Junior Grand Prix figure skating circuit.

In men’s singles, Nan Song of China won the gold medal with Artur Gachinski of Russia second and his compatriot Gordei Gorshkov third.

Rogozine, the Canadian junior champion, capped the best international performance of his career placing sixth with a personal best total score of 152.67.  The 16-year-old is in his third year on the circuit and was eighth last month at second stop on the circuit in Lake Placid, N.Y.

In ice dancing, Ekaterina Pushkash and Jonathan Guerreiro of Russia won the gold medal.  Lorenza Alessandrini and Simone Vaturi of Italy took the silver and Piper Gilles and Zachary Donohue of the U.S., were third.

Martins and Chau collected their third consecutive sixth place finish on the circuit and earned personal best scores in all three parts of the competition including Saturday’s free dance to total 140.53 points.  Carolyn MacCuish of Burlington, Ont., and Tyler Morris of Woodstock, Ont., gained another spot in the standings finishing seventh.

In pairs, China was 1-2 with Wenjing Sui and Cong Hantaking taking the gold and Yue Zhang and Lei Wang earning the silver.

Strong free skates put the three Canadian pairs in the top-10. Brittany Jones of Toronto and Kurtis Gaskell of Guelph, Ont., posted the sixth best long program Saturday to jump from 11th to eighth overall.

Taylor Steele of Strathroy, Ont., and Robert Schultz of Puslinch, Ont., were ninth and Margaret Purdy of Strathroy and Michael Marinaro of Sarnia, Ont., leaped from 13th to 10th with the seventh best score in the long program.

The sixth stop on the circuit is October 8-10 in Zagreb, Croatia.
