(March 27, 2008)

Although the 2008 ISU World Figure Skating Championships represented the end of the competitive skating season for the singles, ice dance and pairs disciplines, for several of our National team members another surprise was in store. For only the second year in a row, the ISU is awarding additional prize money to the three skaters and couples per discipline having earned the most World Standing points during the 2007/2008 season.

The reigning Canadian Champions in ice dance, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, ended their remarkable season placing second not only on the World Championships podium in Gothenburg, Sweden, but also in the ISU World Standing Bonus with 2063 points (US$40,500). The current World Ice Dancing Champions, Isabelle Delobel and Olivier Schoenfelder from France, took the ISU World Standing title with 2498 points (US$67,500) and finishing in third place was the European Champions, Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin from Russia, with 2040 points (US$27,000).
