(April 4, 2008)
Own the Podium will host a Canadian Winter Medalist Reception on April 23, 2008 in Montreal to celebrate the achievements of the Canadian winter athletes who have won a World Cup or World Championship medal this winter season.
The event, which will take place at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel, will feature medalists from Québec, as well as World Champions from across Canada, with 1994 Olympic Freestyle skiing gold medalist Jean-Luc Brassard as the emcee.
The 2008 World Men’s Figure Skating Champion Jeff Buttle will be attending along with the 2008 World Pairs Figure Skating bronze medalists Jessica Dubé and Bryce Davison. Joannie Rochette, who won the bronze medal at both the 2007 HomeSense Skate Canada International and the 2007 Cup of Russia, and Jessica Miller and Ian Moram, who placed third at the 2007 Cup of China, will also take part in the festivities.
Own the Podium, a national sport technical initiative, is a collective effort designed to help Canada’s winter athletes finish with the highest medal count at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and to place in the top three nations (gold medal count) at the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games.
Congratulations to Jeff, Jessica, Bryce, Jessica, Ian and Joannie!
