In Juvenile Women, Roxanne Rheault scored a total of 39.82 points in her qualifying round performance. This surpassed the previous mark of 32.86 set in February at the 2006 Junior Nationals by Kaetlyn Osmond from Newfoundland. This 6.96 point improvement represents a 21% increase. A similar percentage increase on the record in Senior Women would represent a 38.62 point improvement.

Roxanne was not the only juvenile skater to beat the previous record. Three other skaters, Julianna Sagaria, Rosaly Paquet and Sara Jones also had scores that were above the previous mark from last season.

In Pre-Novice women, Alexandra Levy scored a total of 76.02 points, beating the previous score of 75.03 set at the 2005 Eastern Challenge by Vicky Pharand, also from Quebec. Levy’s mark helped her beat the other 171 pre-novice women competitors.

“These results highlight the progress of our judging system. Skaters and coaches are learning how to make strategic decisions to maximize their possible point totals. In both cases mentioned above, the increase in points came primarily from the technical scores,” says Rob Davison, Cumulative Points Calculation (CPC) Coordinator at Skate Canada.

Skate Canada’s Sectionals continue next weekend with the busiest weekend of the season as six sections host their event: British Columbia & Yukon, Alberta, North West Territories & Nunavut, Western Ontario, Eastern Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
