Jamie Sale and David Pelletier are set to receive another honour.
Sale and Pelletier, who won the gold medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics, have been selected to be inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame.
In addition to their Olympic gold medal, Sale and Pelletier captured the gold medal in the Pair event at the 2001 International Skating Union World Figure Skating Championships in Vancouver, and they were also the Canadian Pair Champions in 2000, 2001 and 2002.
A number of other sports figures will be inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame this year. Sale and Pelletier will be joined by former Edmonton Oilers goalie Grant Fuhr, who was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2003, 2002 Olympic Champion cross country skier Beckie Scott, and Hayley Wickenheiser, a member of the 2002 Canadian women’s hockey team that won the gold medal at the 2002 Olympics. Also being inducted are Bill Gilhespy, Perky McCullough and John Weiland.
Receiving the Pioneer Award is Seabiscuit jockey George Woolf, and Bryan Hall, play-by-play voice of the Canadian Football League’s Edmonton Eskimos, will receive the Bell Memorial Award for media contributions.
The induction will take place at an official ceremony, which is to be held in Red Deer, Alta., Sale’s hometown, on May 28, 2004.
