It was a strong showing for Canada's Shawn Sawyer at the recent 2002 Belgrade Sparrow, the second of the eight ISU Junior Grand Prix events. Sawyer, the Junior Men's champion at the 2002 Bank of Montreal Canadian Championships, won the event with a difficult free program, in which he landed five triple jumps. He received marks as high as 5.3 for Technical Merit, and marks as high as 5.4 for Presentation. The Edmundston, N.B. native, who trains at the Minto Skating Club in Ottawa, came from behind after finishing third in the short program.
