(July 29, 2010) – The Minto Summer Skate 2010 began today and will continue through the long-weekend. This year is a special year for the club as it celebrates its 25th anniversary of hosting the popular event.

Every year the organizing committee gives a gift to the volunteers and judges as a thank-you for donating their time. This year the Minto Skating Club has joined up with Olympic figure skating bronze medalist Joannie Rochette and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and the newly launched iheartmom campaign. The Minto Skating Club will be giving iheartmom t-shirts in their gift packages along with a box of heart shaped chocolates.

In addition, spectators can purchase paper hearts for $2.00 and wish a skater good luck on the Minto Skating Club Wish Wall with all proceeds going to the iheartmom campaign.

The club has also purchased additional shirts and will be selling them onsite at the competition this weekend. Proceeds from the sales of the shirts go to fight the number one killer of women in North America, heart disease.

Congratulations to the Minto Skating Club for helping make a difference in a disease that affects so many lives and good luck to all the competitors!
