Earlier this season Skate Canada launched a new initiative to find the Best of the Best CanSkate Coaches in Canada. Seven CanSkate coaches were selected from across Canada to attend the ACGM and National Coaches’ Conference which took place at the end of May.
The Best of the Best CanSkate Coaches attended presentations on CanSkate philosophies, techniques, formats, teaching tools, music incorporation and creative exercises.
“What an experience! The program was energetic and full of a group of people who strongly believe in sharing their knowledge to benefit our young skaters,” said Best of the Best coach, Sheilagh McCaskill. “I know I left feeling motivated, energized and raring to go! I can't wait to make positive changes to my club’s CanSkate program!”
The session included both on and off ice training. The on ice session included running an “Ultimate CanSkate Session”, which was done with local CanSkaters. The session was videotaped and will be used for training purposes in the future.
The seven Best of the Best CanSkate Coaches left Regina with fresh ideas to bring back to their section and clubs. The first time program was an outstanding success.
“It was such an honour to work with talented coaches from across the country who take their role in Skate Canada’s learn to skate program seriously,” said Advisory Coaching Committee Chair, Monica Lockie. “All of the participants involved showed true passion, dedication and commitment. We are fortunate to have individuals like these among us.”
