Former national and international skater Norm Proft is the new Officials Program Manager for Skate Canada. Norm will be working at Skate Canada’s national office in Ottawa. Norm will be in responsible for coordinating the development, implementation and monitoring of programming for officials and projects for officials.

Norm has an extensive skating background having competed nationally and internationally for Canada, toured internationally as a professional skater, worked as a Skate Canada Professional Coach and served as a Technical Specialist in the new CPC judging system.

Born in North Vancouver, B.C., Norm began his career on the ice at an early age, playing minor hockey. He started figure skating when he was 11-years old and is remembered for winning the Junior National title in 1987 after placing 6th at the Western Divisionals that year, seeing the fourth and fifth place skaters pull out and go to the Canadian Junior Championships as a second alternate.

Norm is also proud to have won the short program at the 1990 Canadian Championships at the senior level in front of Kurt Browning and Elvis Stojko. Norm won gold at the Skate Electric International in London, England, in 1990, and bronze at the Trophée Lalique in Paris, France, in 1989.
